At Village Green Dentistry, we realize what a big decision orthodontic treatment can be. We take the trust that you have placed in us very seriously, and we want you to know that you will be heard and understood from your very first appointment to your last. Equally important to us is that you have confidence in every aspect of the treatment process.
If you are thinking about Invisalign as an orthodontic treatment for yourself or a family member, we want to make sure that you are completely prepared for the journey ahead. So we have put together this Invisalign guide so that you can see how the process works from start to finish.
It helps to understand the difference between fixed and removable appliances. Conventional metallic braces are fixed types of appliances that rely upon the use of brackets directly attached to your teeth. Only an orthodontic expert can remove them. In contrast, Invisalign clear aligners can be taken out by you. Although Invisalign has the same functions as other teeth straightening options, the system does so without the use of wires, brackets or bands.
Invisalign provides a simple way of straightening teeth, but it is also quite advanced. Your aligners are formed from a special type of resin that molds to your teeth for a firm fit. The ability to remove them affords more flexibility and freedom than conventional metal braces. For this reason, they make an excellent treatment choice for those desiring a more discreet system that will not interfere with their lifestyle.
After you have decided to be treated with Invisalign, we will start by taking a detailed scan of your teeth and mouth to create your aligners. Your subsequent individualized treatment plan will lay out the precise movements we want your teeth to make, and we will provide you an estimate of how long your treatment should take.
One important aspect to the Invisalign system is that your results, unlike fixed appliances, depend upon how compliant you are. Although you are able to remove your aligners, you must wear them for a minimum of 20 hours daily for effective results. They will also be swapped out periodically as the process moves along. This normally occurs every week or two.
One of the great things about Invisalign is the convenience of being able to remove your aligners for eating and cleaning. Whenever you remove your aligners, you will need to rinse them thoroughly to avoid the spread of bacteria. Be sure to carefully brush and floss your teeth before replacing your aligners so that no food particles are trapped in them. Although you should be brushing your aligners, do not brush them too hard, as they can become scratched.
If you feel that you or a family member would benefit from orthodontic treatment with Invisalign, we would love to hear from you! Please contact the office of Village Green Dentistry to schedule your Invisalign consultation today.
